What’s more, two names have fallen off the list completely (Kavitark Ram Shriram and Manoj Bhargava).

Desai may have witnessed a drop in his position from last year (252 in 2013 v/s 239 in 2012), but the Florida outsourcer continues to lead the Indian-American line-up in America’s 400 Richest.

The best laptops, convertibles, and Ultrabooks for Windows 8

From classic clamshell notebooks to next-gen touch hybrids, see how HP, Dell, Samsung, Lenovo, and Acer stack up in InfoWorld's reviews

No longer considered just a marketing ploy, Ultrabooks have taken over a good chunk of the notebook market. These thin, light, power-efficient laptops have gained a following among both users and manufacturers as an evolution of the portable computing form.
Windows 8 has certainly played a part in this shift. By marrying a touch-driven tablet UI to the traditional Windows desktop, an Ultrabook (or tablet-laptop convertible or hybrid), Windows 8 has forced a rethink of the traditional notebook form, while at the same time delivering the Windows features users have come to expect.

Microsoft ships upgraded preview of IE11 for Windows 7

Final version of newest browser to reach Windows 7 'later this fall'

Microsoft Wednesday shipped a more polished preview of Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) for Windows 7. The Release Preview, as Microsoft named it, followed a rougher-edged Developer Preview issued in late July.

IE11 on Windows 7 is similar to the same-named browser slated to ship in final form with Windows 8.1, the update set to debut on the Windows Store Oct. 17 as a free download for current Windows 8 users.

There are several differences, however, between the two. While IE11 on Windows 8.1 is -- for obvious reasons given the newer OS's emphasis -- heavily reliant on touch and gestures, IE11 on Windows 7 is a keyboard-and-mouse application. It also places the address bar at the top of the window, unlike at the bottom as does IE11 on Windows 8.1's "Modern" nee "Metro" user interface (UI).The Windows 7 browser also omitted support for SPDY -- the Google-designed page load acceleration protocol -- won't sync open tabs between machines, as does Google's Chrome, Mozilla's Firefox and IE11 on Windows 8.1 and cannot keep as many tabs open as 8.1's version.

Yahoo CEO says company now has 800 million users

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer says the Internet company now has about 800 million worldwide users, a 20 percent increase since she was lured away from Google 15 months ago to steer a turnaround. The gain disclosed Wednesday at a technology conference in San Francisco is
the latest related stories Yahoo stock tops $30 for first time since February 2008 evidence of the progress that Yahoo Inc. is making under Mayer's leadership. The Sunnyvale, California, company's stock has nearly doubled since Mayer came aboard, though she and analysts say that gain primarily stems from the value of Yahoo's holdings in China's rapidly growing Alibaba Group.

Mayer says the figure for the 800 million Yahoo users doesn't include the traffic that the company has picked up from its $1.1 billion acquisition of Internet blogging service Tumbler earlier this year.
Despite the increased traffic, Yahoo is still struggling to boost its online advertising revenue - the main way that the company makes money. In recent quarters, Yahoo's ad revenue has been barely rising while Google and another rival, Facebook Inc., have been thriving.

Mayer says she believes it her strategy for accelerating Yahoo's revenue growth will require at least three years to unfold.

Yahoo's stock shed 29 cents Wednesday to close at $29.19.

Samsung Galaxy Gear vs Pebble Smartwatch

Samsung jumped into the wearable accessory bandwagon with Galaxy Gear smartwatch, priced at $299. We went hands-on with the device at IFA 2013 in Berlin last week.
The smartwatch space is heating up with the likes of Pebble, Kreyos and Sony trying to make an impact. With someone like Samsung entering the fray, the possibility of smartwatches going mainstream gets bigger. Sony has been in this space longer than anyone else, but hasn’t really cracked the recipe for success. It’s interesting to note that Qualcomm too is trying its luck in this space with their Toq smartwatch. But it’s Pebble who seems to have got a decent head-start ever since they garnered over $10 million crowdfunding via Kickstarter last year. Hence, we thought of pitching Pebble against the Galaxy Gear and see how they fare.Smartwatches like Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and Sony’s multiple attempts to break the wearables market are trying too hard and missing the point, Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky says, arguing that simplicity is the right route to the wrist. “I think everyone is kind of ignoring the things that you need to do with a smartwatch” Kickstarter success Migicovsky said at TechCrunch Disrupt today. “It needs to mesh into your life, it needs to have a long battery life … and it needs to just not, y’know, be annoying.”

Mozilla Firefox 24

One of the reasons why Mozilla’s Firefox browser is still among the best in the world is that there are frequent updates being applied to it. The agressive update cycle of the Firefox keeps regular users and developers happy. While Windows 8 users will have to wait until January or February next year to use a Firefox browser suitable for Microsoft’s Windows 8 “Modern” user interface, we are now “invited” to try out Firefox 24, with an official version being expected later on today.

How to Dress for an Interview

The First Impression –The Most Important One

Candidates for jobs wearing jeans, purple sweat suits, and spike heels or sneakers. Other applicants weren't afraid to show pierced body parts , spiked hair & Tatoos. Still others chewed gum or showed up in rumpled clothes or with their pants falling down. One recruiter even told a candidate with his trousers down below his hips, to "Pull your pants up."
The first impression you make on a potential employer is the most important one. The first judgment an interviewer makes is going to be based on how you look and what you are wearing. That's why it's always important to dress professionally for a job interview, even if the work environment is casual.
What's the appropriate dress code for an interview? You'll want that first impression to be not just a good one, but, a great one. The candidate dressed in a suit and tie is going to make a much better impression than the candidate dressed in scruffy jeans and a t-shirt.

Nokia’s Android Plans Pushed Microsoft Into Acquisition Deal

February 11th, 2011. The day Nokia decided that it will go with Windows Phone as their next smartphone OS, instead of the much speculated Android. Perhaps, this was the precursor of things to come. At 6 A.M., Helsinki time, on Sept. 3, 2013, Microsoft announced buying of Nokia’s phone business for $7.2 billion. So why did Microsoft hurry to buy Nokia? Was it afraid of Nokia’s flirting with Android? Were there actually tests on Nokia running on Android?
There was wide speculation that Nokia was atleast looking at developing an Android phone to either altogether replace or work along with its Microsoft Windows line. There was a huge possibility that sometime after late 2014, Nokia would have shifted to Google’s Android.

Apple iPhone 5C Launched

Today, Apple’s Phil Schiller has announced the introduction of two new iPhone models, one of which is the much rumored iPhone 5C. As most of you figured, the “C” at the end stands for Color, and the iPhone 5C will come in 5 colors: blue, white, pink, yellow and green.
Also, users will have the possibility to buy silicone rubber covers that will have cutouts, for better color contrast. These customization options certainly make the device more appealing for some, but on the flip side, the materials used in the device are rather interesting. The back of the iPhone 5C is made out of a hard polycarbonate material, so its basically plastic, which is a long way from the glass and other premium materials used in the past models.
