Apple iPhone 5C Launched

Today, Apple’s Phil Schiller has announced the introduction of two new iPhone models, one of which is the much rumored iPhone 5C. As most of you figured, the “C” at the end stands for Color, and the iPhone 5C will come in 5 colors: blue, white, pink, yellow and green.
Also, users will have the possibility to buy silicone rubber covers that will have cutouts, for better color contrast. These customization options certainly make the device more appealing for some, but on the flip side, the materials used in the device are rather interesting. The back of the iPhone 5C is made out of a hard polycarbonate material, so its basically plastic, which is a long way from the glass and other premium materials used in the past models.

The iPhone 5C is a unibody design that will have a plastic back that comes in 5 colors and a full glass front. Also, some minor improvements will come on the software side, with iOS 7 that is coming in a few days. On the technical side, the iPhone 5C will have some interesting features, however, they aren’t in any way amazing. Here are a few of the features that the 5C will score:

  1. Screen: 4-inch Retina Display
  2. CPU: Apple A6 Chip
  3. Rear Camera: 8 MP iSight  camera with flash and improved low light photos
  4. Front Camera: Improved FaceTime HD camera with FaceTime Audio and improved backside illumination
  5. Connectivity: 802.11 b/g/n, dual band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.0, LTE
  6. The device will also have a larger battery than the iPhone 5, as well a hybrid IR filter.

The iPhone 5C is said to have better power-efficiency and for gamers, “console-level graphics”.Also, a word about the price and availability: the device will come in two versions, a 16 GB model that will set you back $99 and a 32GB model that will cost $199, for two-year contract in the US. Also, the device’s rubber cases will cost $29. Pre-orders start September 13th, and will be available for purchase starting September 20th in US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, and the UK. By December 2013, it will be available in over 100 countries and 270 carriers worldwide
